If Eddie Izzard can run 43 marathons after training for just five and a half weeks...
...then surely I'll be able to find an extra 5km or so in the next couple of weeks and do a 10k run, right?! Well I hope so, because yesterday - after a week or two of saying we would but not actually doing anything - a couple of colleagues and I signed up to do the Spar fun run in the Phoenix Park on April 18. Up until watching Eddie successfully getting through the equivalent of 43 marathons I was convinced the phrase "fun run" was an oxymoron. But now I'm psyched - compared to what he's done this is nothing!
But still, wish me luck!

New runners
Jesus I'm really getting into the running (or my life is super boring, one or the other) - I'm getting excited about runners now! My current runners - Asics Gel - are pretty run out. So last Saturday I popped into town to pick up a new pair. And I fell in love!
Asics Kayanos are the business - as soon as I tried them on I had to have a pair! At €140 I decided to take my euros to the Internet for a better deal, but I'm expecting them to arrive any day now. More details to follow, but I'm expecting magic!

Oh they're miles? That's ok then :)
I've been going home more often of late. It's mostly because I'm in love with my parents and love hanging out with them. But there's also a treadmill in the house, and I like to give my joints a rest from road running as often as possible.
Michael decided I should be running distance rather than minutes by now, so I went home with the intention of doing just that when I could easily see what distance I'd covered on the treadmill. He suggested 5K; I agreed but had my fingers crossed while I promised and decided I'd be happy with 3K.
So when I checked the distance I'd jogged after 26 minutes and it said 2.42 I was not impressed. I was whacked, but I'd somehow only covered 2.42K? I sat on my couch dripping with sweat, and glowered from anger rather than running effort. And as good Mammys do, mine very quickly asked if something was up. So I had a good moan at her saying I'd put in a whole lot of effort but it seems it wasn't worth anything and I wasn't getting anywhere and it wasn't fair and I don't know why I bother anyway...and then she told me her treadmill was set to miles. Well! The glower quickly changed to a grin as I did the sums - oh yes, that's just under 4K and good enough for me :)

In sickness and in health!
The evil 'flu struck me down last week and though I wanted to run (honest!) I did the sensible thing and retired to bed for a day and took it easy for two more. And then stressed for most of those days that when I tried to run again I suddenly wouldn't be able to!
I was back in the runners by Thursday though, and did my 24 minute jog in 20 mins - I should be sick more often!

And I'm back in the game!
Mini psychological victory for me this morning. It wasn't enjoyable, but I did my 20 minutes :). I have a feeling I was on such a buzz after reaching the magical 20 minutes last week I expected getting up on Monday morning at 7am to be easy, and the jog a walk (jog?!) in the park. Once I acknowledge that it's difficult but am up for the challenge I'm more likely to succeed.

I'm feeling fecked...
After a great week last week when I got up at 7am every morning to fit in my run, this week is the exact opposite. I was out with work on Friday night, and while I didn't drink it was a late one. I got up the next morning though and did my 20 minutes. Then I went to Galway for a crazy night, and I'm fecked ever since! I slept the sleep of the dead on Sunday night (seriously, I was never as happy to see my bed) and got up when my alarm went off...sluggishly though. I trundled (no perky jogging at any point) for 10 minutes and then without me even making the conscious decision I stopped. I was knackered. A little bit of me is wondering if it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. If in my head all I was thinking was that I was knackered and couldn't exercise...and therefore couldn't exercise. I went to bed early last night and ignored early alarms this morning too. I've decided not to beat myself up about it and just get back on the running wagon asap. I still feel wrecked. My evenings are quite busy, so mornings suit me for jogging. I'm going to try fit in a quick jog this evening if I can, for however many minutes I can. And then fingers crossed getting up tomorrow morning will be a different, better story.
